We can help you keep black knot from taking over your trees.
Black knot is a type of common fungal disease that affects edible, ornamental, and native cherry and plum trees. If one of your trees has black knot, it may develop hard and swollen growths on its branches and, depending on the level of the infestation, on its trunk. While some trees can tolerate black knot relatively well, others are severely affected by this type of fungus. When this happens, the shoots, leaves, and branches on these trees will die after the black knot develops.
You can typically see black knot galls the most during the fall and winter seasons after the leaves have fallen off the tree. When inspecting one of your trees for black knot, look for black, swollen, and knobby growths that are growing along the length of the branches and stems. Depending on the extent of the growths, your tree may have just a few galls or hundreds of them growing within its canopy.
