There are many aspects of plant care that we can manage as part of your landscape management program.

Proper plant care is a crucial part of any landscape management regimen. At WillowStone, we take a methodical approach to your tree & shrub care and believe that there are several important steps to ensure that you have healthy, vibrant trees for the long-term.

Plant Care in Collingwood, Ontario

  • Plant Establishment – If a newly planted tree or shrub is to survive and thrive in its new place in the landscape, a plant establishment program is mandatory. A newly planted tree or shrub will be under stress until its root system can fully re-grow into the backfill soil and then on into the site soil. It is important that timely and adequate water be applied to the areas of the root ball and beyond as part of the plant care process.
  • Planting – Not only do we offer a complete site analysis before advising you on tree and shrub planting, but we also believe in the “Right Plant, Right Place” adage because it ensures that your newly installed plants will be able to thrive in their new environment. Only after careful consideration do we present you with a list of candidate plants that would be appropriate for the usage of the site.
  • Plant Preservation – Our process for tree preservation consists of assessing impacts to trees to be preserved prior to any type of event, such as construction, tree protection installation, pre-construction and post-construction treatments. We will complete preservation services that consist of watering, fertilizing, branch pruning, root pruning, and in the case of absence of all of the above, soil compaction relief.
  • Disease and Insect Control – Frequent monitoring ensures early detection of plant health problems. Several times during the growing season, we visit the property to monitor plant health. A report is presented to the property owners advising them of any existing or anticipated problems. If action is required to mitigate a health problem, then the property owner will be advised of all of the management options, which may include mechanical, cultural, biological or chemical methods for optimum control.

Plant Care is Crucial to WillowStone Landscape Development and Management

In addition to these, there are many other aspects of plant care that we can manage as part of your landscape management program in Collingwood, Ontario or the surrounding area. Pest control, mulch replenishment, fertilizing, and tree stake removal are additional services we provide.

FAQs About Plant Care

Healthy, well-maintained plants are essential for creating a beautiful and resilient landscape. Professional plant care is about providing the right conditions and consistent attention so trees, shrubs, and other plantings thrive for years. Below are answers to some of the most common questions about plant care services.

Hidden
What is included in professional plant care?

A comprehensive plant care program can involve everything from proper planting techniques and seasonal fertilization to pest and disease monitoring. Many services also include plant establishment programs to help new plantings take root, mulching to retain moisture and suppress weeds, and preservation strategies during construction or landscaping projects. The goal is to promote strong root development, healthy growth, and improved resistance to stressors like drought, pests, and disease.

How often should plant health be monitored?

Consistent monitoring is key to keeping plants in top condition. We recommend scheduling inspections multiple times during the growing season, especially during periods of rapid growth or environmental stress. These visits allow professionals to detect early signs of insect activity, fungal infections, nutrient deficiencies, or irrigation issues before they escalate into larger problems. Timely adjustments to watering, fertilization, or pest management can prevent decline and preserve the overall health and appearance of your landscape.

Why is “Right Plant, Right Place” important?

Choosing the right plant for each location is one of the most effective ways to ensure long-term success. Factors such as sunlight exposure, soil composition, drainage, and proximity to other plants directly influence growth and survival rates. A site analysis before planting helps match plant species to their ideal environment, reducing maintenance needs and minimizing the risk of transplant shock, poor growth, or premature decline. Professional plant selection and placement set the foundation for a thriving, low-maintenance landscape.
